Dalam rangka menghadapi isu pemanasan global, PT PLN (Persero) terus berkomitmen menjalankan program transisi energi sekaligus menekankan pengembangan sumber daya energi terbarukan. Salah satunya dengan menggenjot potensi hydropower di Indonesia.
Direktur Utama PLN, Darmawan Prasodjo menekankan pentingnya memperlambat pemanasan bumi. Oleh sebab itu, PLN memiliki program transisi energi.
Sebagaimana diketahui, transisi energi ini memang menimbulkan sejumlah tantangan, namun juga menawarkan peluang sangat besar. PLN pun berupaya untuk memanfaatkan potensi energi bersih yang ada di wilayah Indonesia.
“Untuk Indonesia, bagaimana kita bisa menyeimbangkan pertumbuhan ekonomi, tapi di saat yang sama menjaga lingkungan, bagaimana kita bisa menyediakan energi yang terjangkau, tapi juga bersih. Menjaga pertumbuhan ekonomi yang pesat, mengentaskan kelaparan, menurunkan kemiskinan, dan menyejahterakan rakyat, serta mewujudkan pertumbuhan ekonomi 8% yang sudah dijanjikan oleh Presiden terpilih, ini tidak mudah. Tugas utama kita hanya menyediakan listrik,” ungkap dia dalam acara Peluncuran Hydropower Outlook dan Peresmian Joint Office PLN-IHA-INAHA di Jakarta, Rabu (18/9/2024).
Di samping itu, PLN mengakui bahwa peralihan dari ketergantungan terhadap bahan bakar fosil, seperti batu bara dan gas, menuju energi terbarukan bukanlah tugas yang mudah. Sebab, saat ini terdapat ketidaksesuaian antara sumber daya energi terbarukan dan episentrum permintaan.
“Kami menyadari sepanjang perjalanan bahwa tidak ada transisi energi tanpa transmisi. Jadi, kami bekerja sama dengan Badan Energi Internasional dan melakukan pemodelan sistem bersama. Kami memetakan tidak hanya setiap potensi energi terbarukan skala besar dan kecil, tetapi kami juga mencocokkan dan menemukan cara untuk memanfaatkan sumber daya tersebut dan menyalurkan energi ke permintaan,” jelasnya.
Selain itu, PLN juga menghadapi tantangan besar dalam memenuhi permintaan energi yang terus meningkat, sehingga dari sinilah potensi hydropower menjadi hal yang penting. PLN menemukan bahwa sumber daya hydropower dan geotermal yang signifikan terletak di daerah terpencil, seperti Sumatera Utara.
Untuk memanfaatkan potensi tersebut, PLN menjalin kerja sama dengan Badan Energi Internasional untuk memetakan potensi energi terbarukan dan merencanakan pembangunan jaringan transmisi sepanjang 70.000 kilometer. Nantinya, proyek ini ditujukan untuk menghubungkan sumber energi dengan pusat permintaan.
Lebih jauh, Darmawan menegaskan bahwa transisi energi tidak dapat dilakukan sendiri. Kolaborasi antara PLN, pemerintah, dan asosiasi internasional menjadi kunci untuk menghadapi tantangan perubahan iklim.
“Kami sedang dalam proses menyelesaikan strategi baru yang disebut Percepatan Pengembangan Energi Terbarukan, atau Transisi Energi. Sekitar 70 gigawatt kapasitas tambahan mulai hari ini hingga 2040 berasal dari energi terbarukan. Itu lebih dari 75% dari kapasitas tambahan. Berapa harganya? Lebih dari US$ 190 miliar,” kata dia.
Melalui langkah-langkah strategis ini, PLN berupaya tidak hanya untuk memenuhi kebutuhan energi nasional tetapi juga untuk berkontribusi dalam memerangi perubahan iklim secara global. Dengan adanya potensi hydropower yang besar dan kolaborasi internasional yang kuat, Indonesia memiliki peluang untuk menjadi pemimpin dalam transisi energi terbarukan.
“Saya tahu bahwa hubungan antara International Hydropower Association dan PLN sangat kuat, sangat produktif. Namun hari ini, kita akan membuatnya lebih kuat. Kita akan membuatnya jauh lebih produktif, kita akan meningkatkan hubungan produktif ini ke tingkat berikutnya,” tandasnya.
